I had an assignment for Multimedia class to create 30 seconds of kinetic typography. This is what I came up with:

A Plan for the Future

This week’s blog assignment is to write a bit about my future goals and/or plans. I think that since most of my classmates are second year students, it’s interesting to hear what their plans are. I, however, am still technically a first year student. My plans are to continue with Graphic Design for about another year. As a designer, I hope to improve my typography skills. It’s easy to draw letters, but not so easy for me to understand what it is about type that makes it look good. Speaking of typography, here is one of my assignments. I designed it on the computer (shown below), but had to hand draw it on illustration board.

Another class I’m taking is Illustration. We started out with drawing cubes and using shading to make an object seem more 3-dimensional. Then we moved to spheres and cylinders, etc. to build up the basics. We eventually got to drawing people or at least human figures. I ended up drawing a bunch of cartoon looking people in Halloween costumes. Our LATEST assignment was to illustrate a piece of clothing in some kind of scene that “tells a story”.

The first image is a photo I took with my phone of my scene.

The second is a photo I took of my drawing.

I believe my scene got bumped a few times and I’m sure I had a point-of-view change in there somewhere, but I think there’s a strong resemblance between the two.

Another thing I’ve been working on outside of school is a design for Randolph Community College’s Spring Fling t-shirt. The theme is CARNIVAL.

I am actually not in class today since I’ve been sick all weekend. I went to the doctor this morning and he told me it was a sinus infection. My symptoms have been fever, body aches, mild cough, mild sore throat (just this morning). I have no congestion. I think I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing since the fever is almost all gone and my body feels better. My skin and hair don’t hurt anymore and I no longer feel as though I can shoot fireballs from my eyes. I’m just going to start my Spring Break a little early. I hope my fellow students have a great week off…I will see you all on Monday!

SCUBA Su

The assignment for this post was to create a quick Photoshop image based on something I feel passionate about in my life. Admittedly, it has been over 10 years since I went SCUBA diving, but it is always an amazing adventure! It’s a world within a world for me. It feels like being in a different reality, but it’s right here on Earth.

The last time I went was to Cayman Brac with my dad. We were down one day and started swimming lazily around a huge coral reef head when we spotted a big Queen Angelfish, similar to the one I used in this composite image. I followed the fish down deeper until a tug on my fin and a glance at the gauges reminded me not to go too deep. Like a good photo shoot or a few free hours spent on PhotoShop, I got lost in the moment.

Until the day I can gear up and hit the ocean again, it was fun being able to create this scene from other photographs and PhotoShop elements.

Another Day, Another Degree

For those of you who have visited my other blog, it was for my Photography degree. THIS one, is for Graphic Design! I know I should really get out into the real world and get a job, but that just sounds like a lot of WORK! I always wanted to find something that I could enjoy rather than something I was just good at. Let’s face it, anyone can be good at something if they do it long enough. I think with photography and graphic design, I have found a couple of skill sets that will constantly be enjoyable, challenging and forever changing.
